If you are researching cancer on a shoe-string, of course we are going to host you for years for nothing. If you are sitting in an unlit flat in some tower block, you cannot afford to pay me. You cannot afford to pay anyone, but I am here to give you a hand up. When your idea makes the big-time, if it ever does, remember me and find ways to give me money. Meanwhile, let's get on with it and try. My machines are running whether you are hosted in them or not. You are not really an expense. I will invest my time in you for free in the hope that someday, some of you might pay enough, to cover my time and expense with all of you.

If you are running a business, what you pay me is not coming from your pocket. It is a business expense and you will simply pay less tax. If you choose to pay me, look at it as a voluntary contribution to support what Sabbatical-Research is trying to do, should you share the vision. There are cheap sites with 24/7 IT support. The bottom line here is about proividing more employment for others and paying more tax. Look at the measure of success on the Client Projects page. I cringe when I forget and buy coffee in a certain coffee chain. I'm about paying tax, but I want to reduce my profits by doing good with the money directly.

Money is not a goal for me, it is an enabler. It will cover my costs, then enable a second machine as a hot spare in case the first one breaks. It will enable a second location in case the electricity goes down in my area. Then BT could quickly switch the site to a different IP address and the alternative site would take over seamlessly. If this becomes a serious business, would I rather pay tax in the hope that the bureaucracy might help the local disabled, or would I rather get them out of their costly-to-heat "Disabled Action" shack into a purpose built building where they can provide 24/7 IT Support, earn a proper salary and pay taxes themselves.
